"Guide to Earning the 'Caught a Shooting Star' Trophy in Monster Hunter Wilds"

by Matthew Apr 09,2025

In the vast world of *Monster Hunter Wilds*, where hunters typically chase after the largest and most dangerous beasts, there's a unique achievement that requires you to find one of the smallest creatures in the game. This guide will walk you through the steps to unlock the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement.

The 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' hidden trophy/achievement stands out for its simplicity and elusiveness. It's easy to miss if you're not actively looking for it. To unlock it, you must capture a rare endemic life form called the **Sandstar**, located in the **Windward Plains**. This tiny creature, resembling a desert mouse with shimmering fur, can only be found at night in a specific area of the region.

Since the Windward Plains are typically explored during the day in the story, you'll need to manipulate the in-game time to reach nightfall. Here are two methods to do so:

  • Fast Travel: Available early in the game after unlocking fast travel points in the Windward Plains. Use the interactive map to fast travel between points until nightfall.
  • Rest: Unlocked after completing Chapter 3 and accessing high-rank content. Use your Guild Points to rest at a base or pop-up camp, choosing 'Nighttime' to advance the time.

The Sandstar is not only small but also incredibly fast, outrunning even a Seikret at full sprint. To increase your chances of catching it, you'll want to gather **Screamer Pods** from **Baunos**, small red-bodied winged monsters found in **Area 11** and **Area 13** of the Windward Plains. These creatures scavenge carcasses, so you can hunt them to collect the necessary pods.

Once it's night in the Windward Plains, head to the area between Area 11 and Area 13. Keep your eyes peeled for the Sandstar. When you spot it, chase it down at full speed and, if you have them, use a Screamer Pod to stun it. Quickly switch to your **Capture Net** (used for fishing as well) and throw it at the Sandstar to capture it. Upon successful capture, the 'I Caught a Shooting Star!' trophy/achievement will unlock, and you'll receive the **Ribbon Dream: Amber** nameplate for your Hunter Profile.

That wraps up our guide on how to get the 'I Caught a Shooting Star' trophy/achievement in *Monster Hunter Wilds*. Don't forget to explore our other guides, including how to skip cutscenes, to enhance your gaming experience.
