Nintendo has given us our first detailed glimpse at a game cartridge for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, just ahead of its launch next month. In a recent video shared through the Nintendo Today app, the company showcased the official Switch 2 carry case, designed to safely store up to six Nintendo Switch 1 and Switch 2 game cartridges.
As previously announced, Switch 2 cartridges maintain the same size and shape as their predecessors, allowing the new console to utilize a single cartridge slot for games from both generations. However, there's a notable distinction: the color of the cartridges. Switch 2 cartridges are distinctively red, a choice that seems to apply universally, not just for the Mario Kart World cartridge featured in the video. For those without access to the Nintendo Today app, the video is also available via OatmealDome on X / Twitter.
The top of the cartridge's label now displays the Switch 2 logo, replacing the original Nintendo Switch design found on earlier cartridges.

Here's a look inside the official Switch 2 carrying case. It has room for the console with the Joy-Con 2 attached, six cartridges, and two Joy-Con 2 straps.
(Also, Switch 2 cartridges seem to be the same size as Switch 1 cartridges, to no one's surprise.)

Apart from the color and logo, Switch 2 cartridges remain identical to their predecessors, including the bitter-tasting coating applied by Nintendo to prevent accidental ingestion. "We don't want anybody to be at risk of any unwanted consumption," Switch 2 director Takuhiro Dohta explained to GameSpot. "We have indeed made it so that if it enters your mouth, you'll spit it out."
