"Hollow Knight: Silksong Playable at Australian Museum in September 2025"

by Olivia May 16,2025

IGN has exciting news for fans of the highly anticipated game, Hollow Knight: Silksong. The game will be playable at Australia's national museum of screen culture, ACMI, in Melbourne from September 18, 2025. This marks a significant milestone for Team Cherry's much-awaited title, which has dominated the Steam wishlist charts for years. Although the exact release date remains undisclosed beyond a 2025 window, this opportunity to play the game at ACMI offers a tantalizing glimpse into its development.

Hollow Knight: Silksong will be a featured part of the Game Worlds exhibition at ACMI. This exhibition will not only allow visitors to experience the game firsthand but will also provide insights into its intricate design and artistic direction. The display will include detailed explorations of the game's hundreds of sprites that animate Hornet’s movements and attacks, as well as the logic behind its challenging boss fights.

Bethan Johnson and Jini Maxwell, co-curators at ACMI, expressed their enthusiasm about showcasing Silksong. "Since Hollow Knight: Silksong's initial announcement in 2019, it has been one of the most anticipated indie games on the planet – and we are thrilled to celebrate the design of this South Australian-made game as a centrepiece of Game Worlds in September," they stated. They highlighted the depth of the game's artistic direction and design, expressing gratitude to Team Cherry for their collaboration.

As part of the announcement, ACMI shared a sprite sheet from Silksong, showcasing one of the many design elements that will be on display. This image, provided to IGN with permission, offers fans a closer look at the game's visual intricacies.

The playable demo at ACMI suggests that a full release might be imminent, possibly even before September 18. Speculation points towards an August launch, given the timing of the museum event. The excitement around Silksong has been building, especially after its brief appearance at Nintendo’s Switch 2 Direct last month, where it confirmed the 2025 release window with a fleeting glimpse of new gameplay.

Originally announced for Nintendo Switch and PC, with subsequent versions planned for Xbox (and Game Pass), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, Silksong has been the subject of numerous teases over the years. Team Cherry started 2025 with a mysterious tease involving a chocolate cake recipe, sparking hope among fans for a re-reveal in April. As the release date approaches, anticipation continues to grow for this eagerly awaited sequel.
