Japanese Switch 2 Priced Lower Than Global Version

by Henry May 03,2025

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch with a unique pricing strategy tailored differently for Japan and the rest of the world. This approach reflects not only regional economic considerations but also caters to linguistic preferences among its user base.

Switch 2 Will Have 2 Language System Versions

The Nintendo Switch 2 will come in two distinct versions: a Japanese-language system, exclusively available in Japan, and a Multi-Language System, available globally. The Japanese version will be priced at approximately $330, significantly lower than the Multi-Language System, which is set at $449.99. This substantial price difference of over $100 can be attributed to the current economic disparity between the weakening yen and the stronger US dollar, impacting tourist purchasing patterns in Japan.

Residents in Japan can opt for either version, but the Japanese-language system is restricted to those with a Nintendo Account set to the Japan region. This version supports only the Japanese language and is compatible solely with software available on the Japanese Nintendo eShop. For those interested in using the Switch 2 in languages other than Japanese, Nintendo recommends purchasing the Multi-Language System version. Further details about this version will be disclosed on April 4.

Switch 2 Will Be Sold By Lottery At The My Nintendo Store

Securing a Nintendo Switch 2 will involve entering a lottery at the My Nintendo Store. Additionally, from April 24, retailers and online shops across Japan will start accepting reservations or lottery entries, subject to availability. To participate in the My Nintendo Store lottery, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • By February 28, 2025, have accumulated at least 50 hours of playtime on Nintendo Switch software (excluding demo and free software).
  • At the time of application, have been a subscriber to Nintendo Switch Online for at least one year and maintain an active subscription.

Additional information regarding the application process will be available on the My Nintendo Store starting April 4.
