Jason Momoa, known for his role as Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), is set to transition into the rebooted DC Universe (DCU) with his portrayal of Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, slated for release in June 2026. Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, is characterized by his superhuman strength and immortality. Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, Lobo first appeared in Omega Men #3 in 1983 and is known as the last survivor of his now-dead world, similar to Superman.
Momoa has expressed his excitement about taking on the role of Lobo, whom he considers his favorite comic book character. He has highlighted the aesthetic similarities between himself and Lobo, indicating a passion for bringing the character to life. In a conversation with ScreenRant, Momoa hinted at what fans can expect from Lobo's appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. While he will only have a brief role in the film, Momoa assured that the character's depiction would be true to the comics, including the iconic motorcycle.
Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be heavily influenced by the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll, who recruits Supergirl to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills. The film features a cast including Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl, Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.
The first image of Milly Alcock as Supergirl was shared by DC co-chief James Gunn in January, signaling the start of production. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second movie in the new DCU, following Superman directed by Gunn, which is set to hit theaters this summer. The DCU will also see the release of a Clayface movie in September 2026.
