Lenovo Legion Go SteamOS Edition Opens Preorders

by Christian Oct 30,2025

Exciting news for portable gaming enthusiasts: The Lenovo Legion Go S with SteamOS is now available for preorder at Best Buy. This marks the first third-party device (outside Valve's own hardware) to ship with SteamOS - the Linux-based operating system powering the Steam Deck. The SteamOS-equipped Legion Go S launches on May 25 starting at $549.99. Let's explore what this means for handheld gaming.

Premium 120Hz gaming handheld equipped with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD storage.

$749.99 at Best Buy

The new SteamOS-powered Legion Go S comes in two configurations. The $549.99 base model (priced identically to Valve's 512GB OLED Steam Deck) features an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB SSD. The higher-end $749.99 model upgrades to AMD's Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip with 32GB RAM and 1TB SSD storage.

Both models feature responsive 120Hz displays, dual USB-C ports, and microSD card expandability. Unique trigger locks enable hair-trigger functionality - perfect for competitive shooters like Marvel Rivals.

These configurations boast more powerful hardware than Valve's Steam Deck, potentially enabling better performance with demanding titles like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Star Wars Outlaws, Dragon's Dogma 2, and Monster Hunter Wilds.

Note these SteamOS versions differ from the Windows 11-based Lenovo Legion Go S released earlier this year. (Our review suggests avoiding the Windows version if you're considering SteamOS compatibility - though it remains available at Best Buy for $729.99).

Valve recently confirmed plans to expand SteamOS availability to third-party handhelds beyond the Steam Deck. While users will eventually be able to install SteamOS on various portable PCs, these official SteamOS-equipped Legion Go S models - launching soon with guaranteed compatibility - represent particularly strong options for gamers seeking more powerful alternatives to Valve's hardware.
