The upcoming Monopoly movie from Lionsgate has enlisted the talented duo John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein as its writers. Known for their work on the successful film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, Daley and Goldstein are set to bring their creative vision to the screenplay of this new adaptation of Hasbro's iconic board game.
The project is in good hands, with Margot Robbie's production company, LuckyChap, on board to produce. Daley and Goldstein's recent achievements include not only Honor Among Thieves but also their original film Mayday, showcasing their versatility in storytelling. They have also contributed their writing talents to high-profile projects such as The Flash and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The journey to bring Monopoly to the big screen has been long and winding. Discussions about a Monopoly movie date back to 2007 when Ridley Scott showed interest in directing it. In 2011, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski were tapped to write the script, but that project eventually fizzled out. Later, in 2015, Lionsgate and Hasbro collaborated on another attempt with Andrew Niccol penning the script. By 2019, it was reported that Kevin Hart and director Tim Story were set to be involved, but those plans did not materialize.
However, with Lionsgate's acquisition of eOne from Hasbro, a fresh start has been given to the Monopoly film project. Fans of the classic board game can now look forward to seeing how Daley and Goldstein will interpret this beloved property and hopefully bring it successfully past Go and around the board.
