Tidepool Games has released a thrilling new addition to the mobile gaming scene with MageTrain, a fast-paced pixel art game that merges the classic 'snakelike' gameplay with roguelike elements. If you enjoyed Nimble Quest, you'll find MageTrain's mechanics strikingly familiar, as it draws significant inspiration from that game.
What’s MageTrain Like?
MageTrain offers a unique blend of Snake, auto-battlers, and roguelike genres. In this game, you control a line of heroes that trail behind you in a snake-like formation. As you navigate the arena, each hero autonomously attacks enemies, adding a strategic layer to the gameplay.
Your primary task is to strategically position your heroes to maximize their effectiveness. Decide who leads the line and who supports from the rear, as their abilities vary based on their position. With nine heroes available at launch, including one that amusingly throws birds, each hero brings distinct skills to the table.
Embark on an adventure through eight varied dungeons, facing off against 28 different enemy types and unlocking 30 unique skills to enhance your team. Along the way, collect gold and power-ups to boost your progress.
Thanks to its roguelike nature, every run in MageTrain is unique. You'll navigate branching paths, make critical upgrade choices, and strive to survive as long as possible. The game's structure is reminiscent of titles like Slay the Spire or FTL, where there are no fixed levels, and you can't save your progress. Any mistake, whether it's crashing into an obstacle or being overrun by enemies, means starting over.
It Isn’t Slow-Paced
The excitement of MageTrain lies in the continuous improvement you experience with each run, even when you don't succeed. You'll learn when to play defensively, when to launch an all-out attack, and when to simply hold on for another 30 seconds.
MageTrain is now available for free on Android. Dive into the action by downloading it from the Google Play Store today.
