Nintendo Switch 2 launch title Mario Kart World carries forward a beloved secret tradition – Totaka's Song has been discovered embedded in the game's character selection screen.
The iconic musical Easter egg, recurring across Nintendo titles for decades, reveals itself subtly when players hover over Yoshi in the roster. After lingering on the green dinosaur's dancing animation, players will hear a familiar melody – Yoshi humming Totaka's distinctive tune.
"While idling on the Character Select screen, I noticed Mario started humming after staying idle long enough," shared Reddit user charizardtelephone. "That made me realize Nintendo could hide similar musical secrets here. Hidden music? In a Nintendo game? Featuring Yoshi? The possibility seemed too perfect."

"After waiting patiently, Yoshi began humming Totaka's Song exactly like the idle animations in Mario Kart 8," charizardtelephone elaborated regarding the Mario Kart World discovery. "It's a fantastic Easter egg. I wonder if I'm among the first to notice it."
The Mario Kart World launch marks strong commercial success in Japan, currently outpacing physical sales of Breath of the Wild during Switch 1's launch period. Available both standalone and bundled with the new Switch console, Nintendo's kart racer serves as the platform's first major hit. Attention now turns to Donkey Kong Bananza, which Nintendo promises to showcase further in an upcoming Nintendo Direct presentation.
