Metaphor: ReFantazio has a chance to become a series - game director

Hashino, when discussing the studio's future, expressed interest in developing a game set during Japan's Sengoku period. He envisions this historical setting as ideal for a new Japanese role-playing game, potentially drawing inspiration from the Basara series.

Currently, there are no concrete plans to create a Metaphor: ReFantazio sequel, though Hashino emphasized a commitment to completing the current project. He revealed that the game was originally conceived as a third major RPG series alongside Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, aiming to become a flagship title for Atlus.

Despite earlier statements ruling out a direct sequel, the team is already working on their next project, which will almost certainly not be Metaphor: ReFantazio 2. However, an anime adaptation is under consideration. Metaphor: ReFantazio has achieved remarkable success for Atlus, marking their most successful platform launch to date.

The game's peak concurrent player count surpassed 85,961, significantly outperforming Persona 5 Royal (35,474 players) and Persona 3 Reload (45,002 players). Metaphor: ReFantazio is available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5.
