Monster Hunter Wilds is considering extending their Open Beta Test 2 by 24 hours following the PlayStation Network outage that occurred over the weekend. Here’s a detailed look at the extension and the events that led to this decision.
Monster Hunter Wilds To Extend Beta Test 2
PS5 Players Could Not Play For 24 Hours
Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) has announced they are considering a one-day extension of their Open Beta Test 2 due to a significant PlayStation Network outage that started at 6 PM EST on February 7th. This outage, lasting 24 hours, left all online games on the console, including the MH Wilds beta test, unplayable. The network was restored by around 8 PM EST the following day, as confirmed by the official NA X (Twitter) support account.
While the specific date and time for the extension have not been finalized, it will be a 24-hour period to compensate for the lost playtime. The extension could occur anytime from the end of Beta Test 2 Part 2 up to February 27th, just a day before the game's official release. Part 1 of Beta Test 2 has already concluded, and Part 2 is scheduled to start on February 13th at 7 PM PT. Players can look forward to resuming their adventures and perhaps even encountering the amusing low-poly bug that transforms characters into humorous, blocky versions.
The Cursed Low-Poly Bug Returns
Capcom has acknowledged that the beta test builds are outdated and do not represent the final product. As a result, players might encounter various bugs, including the notorious low-poly character glitch, which occurs due to textures failing to load correctly. This glitch transforms characters, Palicos, and monsters into distorted, blocky figures.
Instead of frustration, the community has embraced this glitch, sharing their experiences on social media and even expressing a desire for MH Wilds to celebrate its polygonal past in some way. In an interview with GamesRadar+, the MH Wilds team expressed amusement at the community's reaction to the glitch but reminded players to expect a more polished experience when the game launches on February 28th, 2025.
Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest addition to the acclaimed Monster Hunter series, introduces an open-world setting known as the Forbidden Lands. Players will take on the role of the Hunter, tasked with exploring this mysterious region and confronting its apex predator, the White Wraith. The game is set to release on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
PlayStation Network’s Largest Outage In Recent Years
The PlayStation Network outage was attributed to an "operational issue," according to a post on its NA X (Twitter) support account. Sony has apologized for the inconvenience and offered an additional five days of service to PlayStation Plus members as compensation.
However, the lack of communication during the outage led to widespread frustration among users, reminiscent of a similar incident in 2011 when a hacker attack compromised around 77 million user accounts and shut down the network for over three weeks. During the 2011 outage, Sony provided regular updates to keep users informed about the situation and the steps being taken to resolve it.
