Moonstone Deck Dominates Marvel SNAP

Moonstone, the latest addition to Marvel Snap as an Ongoing card, has the unique ability to copy the text of your other 1-, 2-, and 3-Cost Ongoing cards in her lane. She can be thought of as an enhanced version of Mystique. However, crafting a powerful deck around this potent yet delicate card is challenging, which has earned her the nickname "the Glass Cannon of Marvel SNAP."

After extensive testing, I've identified two optimal deck configurations for Moonstone: Patriot and Tribunal setups. This guide will help you build and optimize these decks effectively. If you're unsure about adding Moonstone to your collection, there's a brief review at the end to assist your decision.

Moonstone (4–6)

Ongoing: Has the Ongoing effects of your 1, 2, and 3-Cost cards here.

Series: Five (Ultra Rare)

Season: Dark Avengers

Release: January 15, 2025

The Best Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone excels in decks where she supports rather than leads. A reliable setup involves integrating her into a Patriot-Ultron deck. The strategy is to have her copy one or two key Ongoing effects, rather than depending entirely on her ability.

To build a Moonstone deck with Patriot and Ultron, include these cards: Brood, Mystique, Dazzler, Mockingbird, Ant-Man, Iron Man, Squirrel Girl, Blue Marvel, and Mister Sinister.

Moonstone Deck Synergies

  • Start by setting up the board with Brood, Sinister, or Squirrel Girl to prepare for buffs.
  • Play Patriot, Mystique, and Moonstone in one lane, ideally in that order.
  • In the final round, deploy Ultron to fill all locations and leverage the buffs one last time.
  • Use Iron Man, Blue Marvel, and Mockingbird as backup cards to cover any power shortages in one or two lanes if necessary.

An Alternative Deck for Moonstone

Moonstone also provides exciting gameplay when combined with Onslaught and The Living Tribunal. If you prefer thrill over consistency, use Moonstone as a primary win condition with these cards: Onslaught, Living Tribunal, Mystique, Magik, Psylocke, Sera, Iron Man, Ravonna Renslayer, Captain America, Howard the Duck, and Iron Lad.

The Living Tribunal69
Mystique30
Ravonna Renslayer22
Iron Man50
Captain America33
Howard the Duck12
Magik32
Psylocke22
Sera54
Iron Lad46

Here’s the ideal play sequence:

  1. Use Psylocke to play Moonstone earlier than usual.
  2. Place Onslaught, Mystique, and Iron Man in her lane.
  3. In the final round, distribute the Power across all lanes with The Living Tribunal.

In this setup, Psylocke and Sera help you play key cards earlier. Magik can extend the match, allowing you to play Onslaught before The Living Tribunal. Meanwhile, cards like Captain America and Iron Lad serve as backups if you don’t draw your essential cards in time.

Many players predicted the Moonstone-Onslaught-Tribunal trio would dominate the metagame post-release, seeing it as her natural fit. However, few foresaw that Super Skrull would become her arch-nemesis in this setup.

How to Counter Moonstone

Moonstone players face a significant challenge from Super Skrull. Since her release, many have added Super Skrull to their decks to counter Moonstone effectively. Enchantress, Rogue, and Echo also serve as counters, making Moonstone quite vulnerable.

Moonstone's biggest flaw is that she absorbs the abilities of cards in her lane. Unless you shield her with cards like Invisible Woman, opponents can easily disable that lane with Enchantress, Echo, or Rogue. Alternatively, they might play Super Skrull in another lane to neutralize your strategy.

Is Moonstone Worth It?

Moonstone is worth your Spotlight Keys for several reasons: 1) Her robust ability will become even more valuable as more synergistic Ongoing cards are released; 2) She’s included in a Spotlight Cache with two other Series Five cards, minimizing the risk of unsuccessful pulls; and 3) She’s one of the most nostalgic new cards to join Marvel Snap. If you miss the excitement of executing crazy combos that significantly boost board numbers, Moonstone is definitely a card worth acquiring.
