Overwatch 2 U-Turn: Blizzard Offers Free Skin after Paid Sale

by Finn Feb 12,2025

Blizzard's handling of the Overwatch 2 Cyber DJ skin has ignited another controversy. Initially sold for $19.99, the skin was unexpectedly offered for free a day later to Twitch viewers watching a one-hour broadcast on February 12th.

This sparked considerable backlash from players who had already purchased the skin. The situation, while not unprecedented for Blizzard (who have a history of this practice), is fueling calls for refunds. While the Cyber DJ skin has been removed from the store, Blizzard has yet to address the refund requests.

Adding to Blizzard's challenges, the success of Marvel Rivals is putting significant pressure on Overwatch 2. In response, Blizzard announced a special Overwatch 2 Spotlight event on February 12th, promising to reveal major gameplay updates. This event will showcase new maps, heroes, and other content, and will feature prominent streamers given a preview at Blizzard headquarters.
