Pokémon GO: Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb in Focus Hour

by Hunter Jan 23,2025

Get ready, Pokémon GO trainers! January's first week is almost over, and that means it's time for another exciting Spotlight Hour event this Tuesday! With numerous events already underway, make sure your Poké Ball and Berry supplies are stocked up for this one.

Pokémon GO consistently delivers a packed monthly schedule, including Max Mondays, Community Days, and the ever-popular weekly Spotlight Hours. Each Spotlight Hour focuses on a specific Pokémon, offering increased catch rates and boosted Shiny odds. Here's what you need to know about the upcoming event.

Voltorb & Hisuian Voltorb Spotlight Hour

This week's Spotlight Hour features both Voltorb and Hisuian Voltorb, running from 6 PM to 7 PM Local Time on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Prepare for a double dose of catching and Shiny hunting! Both Pokémon offer valuable combat advantages, particularly when you need extra damage output.

Given the two Pokémon, stock up on Poké Balls, Berries, and Incense. You'll be catching double the usual amount, so maximizing your chances of catching Shiny variants and powering them up is key. Also, ensure you have ample space in your Pokémon storage to avoid interruptions during the hour.

Voltorb (#100 in the Pokédex), a Kanto region Pokémon, is a two-stage evolution. Catching Voltorb yields 3 Candies and 100 Stardust. It evolves into Electrode using 50 Candies. With a maximum CP of 1141, 109 Attack, and 111 Defense, Voltorb packs a punch when needed. As an Electric-type, it's weak against Ground-type moves (160% damage) but resists Electric, Flying, and Steel-type moves (63% damage). The optimal moveset is Spark and Discharge (Electric), delivering 5.81 DPS and 40.62 TDO. Rainy weather boosts its attack. A blue Shiny Voltorb awaits discovery.

Hisuian Voltorb (#100), also from Kanto, shares Voltorb's evolution line and rewards (3 Candies and 100 Stardust upon capture), evolving into Hisuian Electrode with 50 Candies. Its stats (1141 CP, 111 Defense, 109 Attack) mirror Voltorb's. However, while also Electric-type, its type matchups differ slightly. It takes increased damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, and Poison-type moves (160% damage), while resisting Grass, Steel, and Water-type moves (63% damage), and Electric-type moves (39% damage). Its best moveset is Tackle and Thunderbolt, yielding 5.39 DPS and 37.60 TDO. Partly Cloudy and Rainy weather conditions enhance its damage output. Look for the Shiny variant with its distinctive black body.
