Pokémon Fossil Museum to Display Real and Fake Fossils in U.S. Next Year

by Aaron May 17,2025

The Pokémon Company has officially announced that the Pokémon Fossil Museum will be making its way to North America in May 2026. Curious about what the Pokémon Fossil Museum entails? It's exactly as intriguing as it sounds. Following its successful launch in Japan, this unique exhibition, which juxtaposes meticulously crafted Pokémon "fossils" with authentic fossils of ancient lifeforms, is set to open at Chicago's Field Museum on May 22, 2026. This marks the first time the exhibition will venture outside of Japan.

"During your visit, you'll be treated to a fascinating display of vibrant Pokémon models alongside extinct lifeforms from the Field Museum's collection. This includes scientific casts of iconic Field Museum dinosaurs such as SUE the T. rex and the Chicago Archaeopteryx, showcased next to Fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops," the museum elaborated. "Trainers, how many differences and similarities will you be able to spot?"

For those unable to visit either Japan or Chicago, The Pokémon Company and the Toyohashi Museum of Natural History have collaborated to bring the Pokémon Fossil Museum to you. Pokémon enthusiasts can now embark on a virtual tour of the exhibit, exploring the remarkable collection of real and Pokémon fossils, ranging from a tyrannosaurus to a Tyrantrum, from the comfort of their own homes.

In other Pokémon-related news, earlier today it was reported that a man in the UK was arrested after police discovered he was in possession of stolen Pokémon cards valued at £250,000 (approximately $332,500). The collection was uncovered following a raid by the Greater Manchester Police at a residence in Hyde, Tameside, on the outskirts of Greater Manchester. A police spokesperson humorously noted, "Gotta catch 'em all."
