Project ETHOS: 2K's Innovative Roguelike Hero Shooter Now in Playtest

2K Games and 31st Union have launched a playtest for Project ETHOS, their free-to-play roguelike hero shooter. This innovative title blends the dynamic action of hero shooters with the ever-changing gameplay of roguelikes. The playtest runs from October 17th to 21st, offering a first look at this exciting new contender in the genre.

A Unique Blend of Roguelike and Hero Shooter Mechanics

Project ETHOS distinguishes itself through its dynamic "Evolutions" system. These randomized in-game events dramatically alter hero abilities, forcing players to adapt strategies on the fly. Transform a sniper into a close-quarters combatant or empower a support character to carry the team – the possibilities are endless.

The game features two core modes:

• Trials: A signature mode where three-player teams battle against both AI and human opponents. Players collect Cores, strategically choosing when to extract and invest them in Augments to enhance future runs. Death means losing accumulated Cores, adding a high-stakes element to each match. Matches are always live, allowing players to join ongoing battles. Match duration is visible before joining.

• Gauntlet: A traditional competitive PvP mode with tournament-style brackets. Players upgrade their hero with each win, culminating in a final showdown. Elimination means waiting for the next round.

How to Participate in the Playtest

Project ETHOS will evolve based on community feedback. The current playtest, limited to the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Spain, and Italy, offers access via Twitch drops (watch for 30 minutes to receive a key) and website registration for future playtest opportunities.
