Rumor: Rocksteady Studios is developing a new Batman game

by Oliver Feb 28,2025

Reputable gaming journalist Jason Schreier reports that the celebrated Rocksteady Studios is developing a new, single-player Batman game.

Specifics remain limited; Schreier hasn't confirmed if it's a prequel, a sequel to the Arkham series, or a completely separate storyline. However, a source suggests Rocksteady is creating a Batman Beyond game, placing players in a futuristic Gotham City. The goal? A complete trilogy. The game's release is anticipated on next-generation consoles.

The Arkham series was lauded for its stunning graphics, and a futuristic Gotham could be Rocksteady's most visually impressive project yet. The Batman Beyond shift also addresses a significant challenge: Batman's voice. Following the passing of the iconic Kevin Conroy in 2022, the studio might focus on Terry McGinnis or Damian Wayne – a similar approach to Warner Bros. Montreal's canceled Batman: Arkham Knight sequel.

Rocksteady's previous endeavor faced difficulties – their online shooter didn't resonate with players, resulting in its failure. Post-launch plans were abandoned within a year, concluding the narrative with a hastily produced animated short that retconned controversial plot elements, revealing fallen heroes to be clones.

Rocksteady is now returning to its strengths, creating a new solo Batman experience. However, sources caution that the project is still several years from release.
