Last of Us Season 2 Gets Premiere Month, New Trailer

HBO's The Last of Us Season 2: April Premiere Confirmed, New Trailer Unveiled

Sony's CES 2025 presentation brought exciting news for fans of HBO's post-apocalyptic hit: Season 2 will premiere in April! The announcement came with a new trailer offering glimpses of Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and the memorable Dina and Ellie dance scene.

While highly anticipated, Season 2 won't be a direct, scene-for-scene adaptation of The Last of Us Part II. Co-creator Craig Mazin previously hinted that the sequel's story might span three seasons. This seven-episode season (compared to Season 1's nine) suggests creative liberties will be taken to expand on the narrative and characters, as evidenced by the trailer's inclusion of a scene depicting Joel Miller's therapy, absent from the game.

The new, minute-long trailer, showcasing action sequences and emotional moments from the game, concluded with a red flare, solidifying the April premiere. This narrows down the previously announced Spring 2025 release window (March-June). While the specific date remains undisclosed, the April premiere is now confirmed.

Fresh Footage and Familiar Faces

Although much of the trailer comprised previously released footage, new scenes provided a closer look at Dever's Abby, the iconic dance sequence, and a chilling opening shot designed to resonate with gamers. Speculation continues around Catherine O’Hara's role, while the trailer's Roman numeral styling, mirroring Part II's aesthetic, has garnered fan appreciation.

Beyond O'Hara's mystery character, the possibility of another new cast member has emerged. While Season 1 introduced original characters like Kathleen, Perry, Florence, and Marlon, anticipation builds for the live-action debuts of characters like Jesse and the return of Jeffrey Wright as Isaac Dixon, reprising his voice acting role from the game.
