Shin Chan: Shiro and Coal Town Hits Mobile Exclusively on Crunchyroll

by Sarah Jun 18,2025

Crunchyroll is set to add another unique title to its growing lineup of exclusive anime-based mobile releases with Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town. As part of their Ani-May content wave, this charming life-sim game will be available exclusively on mobile through Crunchyroll’s subscription service.

If you're unfamiliar with Crayon Shin-chan, it's a long-running and beloved Japanese manga and anime series that follows the mischievous antics of five-year-old Shinnosuke Nohara—better known as Shin Chan. Much like other iconic franchises such as Doraemon, Crayon Shin-chan has become a cultural staple in Japan but remains relatively unknown internationally.

Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town not only features characters from the main series but also draws inspiration from the cult PlayStation One classic My Summer Vacation (known in Japan as Boku no Natsuyasumi). That nostalgic life-sim finally saw a Western release not too long ago, making this new title feel both fresh and familiar to longtime fans.

A Slice of Summertime Fun

Even if you’re new to the series or haven’t played My Summer Vacation, Shiro and the Coal Town offers an engaging experience for all players. Step into the shoes of Shin Chan as he explores the peaceful countryside of Akita, enjoying laid-back activities like fishing, gardening, and playing with friends.

For those craving a bit more mystery, the enigmatic Coal Town awaits. This hidden location introduces a whimsical and imaginative side to the game, offering a contrast to the serene rural setting. The beautifully rendered visuals and immersive atmosphere make exploration a joy, blending everyday life with subtle fantasy elements.

With its rich world and relaxing gameplay, Shin Chan: Shiro and the Coal Town stands out as a standout entry in the life-sim genre. It also reinforces Crunchyroll’s commitment to bringing niche yet memorable titles to mobile audiences.
