Ubisoft is setting sail to make Skull and Bones Year 2 the most thrilling yet for pirate multiplayer enthusiasts, promising a bounty of new content including new modes, ships, the introduction of a Kraken, and a long-awaited feature: land combat.
During a special Year 2 showcase that aired yesterday, Ubisoft unveiled its roadmap for the upcoming year. The highlight of the presentation was undoubtedly Season 3: Guts and Glory, scheduled for this fall, which will finally introduce the much-anticipated land combat. This feature, eagerly requested by fans since the game's debut last February, will allow players to step away from the sea and engage in swordfights and gun battles on land. As part of the Rogue Warlord update, players will explore sandy shores and damp caves to recruit skilled Officers. A teaser video offered a glimpse of what's to come, though we'll need to wait until later this year to see the full extent of this exciting addition.
While land combat stands out as the crown jewel of Skull and Bones Year 2, Ubisoft's presentation was packed with more content to keep players engaged throughout 2025. Season 1, Ascent into Chaos, launches today, April 15, introducing an item ascension system to boost loot, challenging World Tiers, a new Schooner medium ship, and the Death Tides PvP mode for team-based action. Season 2: Oaths of War, arriving in the summer of 2025, will feature Megaforts and the imposing Frigate large ships. Then, in winter, Season 4: Eye of the Beast will introduce the legendary Kraken, the Hunter’s Guild, and the Corvette large ship.
If these updates sound exciting and you're eager to dive into the pirate life, you'll be thrilled to know that Skull and Bones is hosting a free weekend from April 17 – 21. During this period, players can experience the thrill of pirate PvP firsthand and even purchase the game at a discounted price, though the exact discount has yet to be announced.
Skull and Bones launched on February 16, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S, earning a 7/10 in our review. While Ubisoft has been tight-lipped about official sales figures, they did mention that the game achieved "record player engagement" shortly after its release. Interestingly, the launch of Skull and Bones also saw a 200% increase in players for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag.
