Sony Has Good News and Bad News on PlayStation 5 Themes

by Carter Mar 03,2025

Sony's popular PlayStation console themes for PS5 are disappearing! The limited-time PSOne, PS2, PS3, and PS4 themes will be unavailable as of January 31, 2025. However, Sony assures fans they'll return in the coming months.

In a recent tweet, Sony expressed gratitude for the positive reception of these nostalgic themes, stating they are working to bring them back.

Unfortunately, there's a downside. Sony has confirmed no plans to release additional themes beyond these four retro designs. This announcement disappointed many fans who hoped for more theme options on the PS5.

The temporary themes, released to mark PlayStation's 30th anniversary on December 3, 2024, allowed users to customize their PS5 home screens and menus with iconic visuals and sounds from previous generations. Each theme faithfully replicated the aesthetic and audio of its respective console. The PSOne theme featured the console itself in the background, the PS2 theme recreated its menu structure, the PS3 its wave background, and the PS4 its signature wave patterns. All included the original console's boot-up sounds.
