Sony's Spider-Man Universe is expanding, with reports suggesting a new film in development featuring a beloved character's live-action debut. While Marvel continues its Spider-Man saga, Sony is reportedly pursuing a different path.

According to industry insider Jeff Sneider, Sony is actively seeking an actor to portray Miles Morales in an upcoming Spider-Man film. The exact format—a standalone film or a cameo in an existing project—remains uncertain, but the news has generated significant excitement among fans.

Miles Morales, a fan favorite from Sony's successful animated Spider-Man films (voiced by Shameik Moore), seems a natural fit for a live-action adaptation. Producer Amy Pascal previously confirmed Sony's interest, and this casting call suggests those plans are moving forward. Speculation points towards Miles' introduction in a currently unannounced Sony Spider-Man film, or possibly the rumored Spider-Gwen movie. While Sneider didn't name potential actors, fan speculation includes Moore himself, who has expressed interest, and Hailee Steinfeld (Gwen Stacy's voice actor in the animated films), who has also shown enthusiasm for a live-action role.

Sony's Spider-Man Universe has had mixed results. While the Venom films performed well, others like Madame Web and Morbius underwhelmed. A successful live-action Miles Morales movie, however, could revitalize the franchise. Sony's proven ability to handle the character in animation offers hope, but past live-action attempts have fueled skepticism. Fans are eager to see if Sony can avoid past mistakes and deliver a film that meets expectations, employing a creative team capable of doing justice to the popular character. The future of this project remains to be seen.
