Top Spring 2025 Anime Recommendations
I’ve spotlighted The Apothecary Diaries, Once Upon A Witch’s Death, The Beginning After The End, To Be Hero X, and WITCH WATCH in my roundup of Spring 2025 anime dubs coming to Crunchyroll, but there are some great additional picks that should be on your watch list from the list above too.
Devil May Cry marks Netflix's latest venture into animated video game adaptations. With a trailer featuring Limp Bizkit and a new Evanescence track, the series aims to capture the essence of its target audience. Netflix's track record with anime and game IPs is mixed, ranging from successes like Castlevania, Arcane, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners to less successful attempts like Tekken: Bloodline and Dragon’s Dogma. However, with creator Adi Shankar, who has worked on Castlevania and other notable projects, and Studio Mir behind Avatar: The Last Airbender and Korra, Devil May Cry promises a thrilling experience for fans and newcomers alike, especially those who enjoy series like Trigun.
In Moonrise, the moon seeks independence, a concept that could have been a sequel to 2021's Moonfall. This ONA boasts talent from WIT Studio (Attack On Titan, Vinland Saga), original character designs by Hiromu Arakawa (Fullmetal Alchemist), and direction by Masashi Koizuka (Attack On Titan Seasons 2 & 3). Despite limited information on the storyline, the anticipation is high for something extraordinary.
Lastly, YAIBA: Samurai Legends might be less known outside Japan or to younger audiences, but its creator, Gosho Aoyama of Case Closed fame, brings a fresh take on this samurai comedy. Following Yaiba Kurogane's battle against a magical katana-wielding arch-nemesis and a demon army, this series, animated by WIT Studio and with Aoyama's direct involvement, promises a blend of humor and action reminiscent of Detective Conan and early Dragon Ball, with a nod to Japanese historical figures.
