Today marks the exciting release of the "A Pirate’s Fortune" DLC for Star Wars Outlaws, available on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC. This expansion has fans buzzing, largely due to the inclusion of the beloved character Hondo Ohnaka, a Weequay pirate known from the Darth Maul comics and the animated TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
Drew Rechner, Creative Director at Ubisoft's Massive Entertainment, shared with IGN that the team's passion for Hondo was the driving force behind this new content. "We always knew because there were so many passionate people on the team that we needed to feature Hondo. And, you know, that scoundrel fantasy of Kay mixing with the pirate fantasy of Hondo, it just kind of makes sense, right?" Rechner explained.
In the DLC, players will see Kay Vess evolve as she learns leadership, potentially guided by Hondo Ohnaka, though Rechner hinted at the complexity of their relationship, saying, "And we also knew that Kay would be kind of coming into her own, learning what it means to be a leader, and then having someone like Hondo as a mentor - or is he? - we thought it led to really interesting things."
The "A Pirate’s Fortune" expansion introduces a new storyline involving the Rokana Raiders crime gang and the Miyuki Trade League, which can provide upgrades for Kay's Trailblazer ship. Additionally, players can enjoy a new blaster capability known as Shock.
Star Wars Outlaws is set to expand its reach with a Nintendo Switch 2 release on September 4. While Rechner kept details about new features for the Switch 2 version under wraps, he assured fans that more information would be forthcoming. "In terms of a specific feature set, that's something that we will get into later. So we'll have more stuff to talk about later," he stated.
Potential features for the Switch 2 version could include using controllers as a mouse and a new GameChat capability, enhancing the gaming experience for players on this platform.
