Starfield PS5 Release Rumors Surge After PlayStation Logo Spotted in Development

by Nova May 06,2025

Speculation that Starfield might soon be confirmed for release on the PlayStation 5 intensified over the weekend after eagle-eyed fans noticed a PlayStation logo on Bethesda's official Creations website. The logo was linked to a work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield. Although the Creation was later removed, it has fueled speculation that Bethesda's sci-fi game, which has so far been exclusive to PC and Xbox, could be coming to PS5.

The discovery has led fans to wonder if Bethesda plans a significant content update, possibly even a new expansion, to coincide with Starfield's potential PS5 release. After the lukewarm reception of the Shattered Space expansion, there has been little excitement around Starfield in recent months. Microsoft, Bethesda's parent company, is expected to hold its annual summer showcase, which could be the perfect opportunity to reveal more about Starfield.

Bethesda has teased "exciting things" for Starfield this year, amidst growing discontent from players over a lack of communication and updates. In June 2024, Bethesda reaffirmed its commitment to the game and confirmed at least one more story expansion following Shattered Space. In an interview with the YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, Bethesda Game Studios' Todd Howard expressed the goal of releasing an annual story expansion for "hopefully a very long time."

IGN's review of Starfield scored it a 7/10, stating: "Starfield has a lot of forces working against it, but eventually the allure of its expansive roleplaying quests and respectable combat make its gravitational pull difficult to resist."

In January, Microsoft’s gaming boss Phil Spencer did not rule out the possibility of Starfield coming to PS5. Reports from March 2024 indicated that both Starfield and MachineGames' Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were being considered for PS5. Indiana Jones has since been confirmed for PS5 with a release window in spring 2025, following its launch on PC and Xbox Series X and S. However, Starfield has yet to be officially confirmed for PS5, though Spencer's comments suggest it is a possibility.

Several Xbox games are already available on PS5, including Rare's Sea of Thieves, Tango Gameworks' Hi-Fi Rush, and Obsidian's Grounded and Pentiment. Microsoft also publishes Minecraft games on PlayStation consoles, along with many other platforms, and is set to release Doom: The Dark Ages and Ninja Gaiden 4 on PS5 later this year. Playground's Forza Horizon 5 is also confirmed for a PS5 release soon. There are even reports that Microsoft might finally bring Halo to PlayStation after decades of Xbox exclusivity.

Spencer has stated that Xbox’s multiplatform strategy is partly driven by the need to increase revenue for Microsoft’s gaming business, especially following the massive $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the makers of Call of Duty.

“We run a business,” Spencer said in August last year. “It’s definitely true inside of Microsoft the bar is high for us in terms of the delivery we have to give back to the company. Because we get a level of support from the company that’s just amazing and what we’re able to go do.

“So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us.”

Bethesda Game Studios, currently with 450 employees, is juggling multiple projects including Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 76, mobile development, and external development partnerships.
