Rey Dau is the first dragon monster you'll encounter in Monster Hunter Wilds. This formidable creature wields the lightning element, rendering it immune to lightning-based attacks. However, it's notably vulnerable to other elements, particularly water and ice. The most effective target on this boss is its head, which boasts a 4-star weakness. Alternatively, the dragon's wings are also viable, with a 3-star weakness.
It's advisable to avoid attacking the torso due to its durability. Given the challenge of consistently hitting the head, targeting the tail can be a strategic move. Attacking the legs isn't recommended as they are well-protected. For status ailments, almost all are effective except for Stun and Paralysis, as the dragon's lightning element makes these ineffective.
Use a Flash Pod
A key tactic for swiftly subduing Rey Dau is to deploy a Flash Pod. This tool momentarily stuns the monster, providing a window to land critical hits. When Rey Dau unleashes its lightning attack, seize the opportunity to strike at its horn for substantial damage. Don't forget to switch to Focus Mode to pinpoint the glowing red horns.
Wear Element-Resistant Gear
Surviving Rey Dau's onslaught can be tough, but equipping gear that enhances your resistance to elements can make a significant difference. The Hope Armor set, with its Divine Blessing skill, reduces incoming damage and offers resistance to both Lightning and Fire. Additionally, consuming a meal that bolsters your elemental resistance can be beneficial.
If dodging is a challenge, positioning yourself near Rey Dau's legs in Monster Hunter Wilds is advisable. The monster primarily targets areas in front and behind it, making the legs a safer spot.
Pay Attention to the Environment
Rey Dau's tendency to fly between locations during battle adds a dynamic element to the fight. In the open plains, you can utilize Vine Traps found on the lone tree to temporarily stun the dragon. However, caution is required when it returns to its nest, as it follows up with a lightning attack that can easily stun you. Avoid rash actions in this area to prevent being electrocuted.

Apart from defeating Rey Dau, capturing it in Monster Hunter Wilds can yield valuable rewards. To capture the dragon, reduce its health until it's on the brink of death. Keep an eye out for the skull icon near its icon on the mini-map, signaling the right moment to set a trap.
Given Rey Dau's affinity for lightning, Shock Traps won't work. Opt for a Pitfall Trap for a successful capture. Follow up swiftly with a Tranquilizer to prevent the dragon from escaping. Timing is critical here, so be prepared.
Monster Hunter Wilds is available now on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
