It seems we may have gotten an early peek at the title for the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, thanks to a premature reveal in an NBCUniversal press release. The internet quickly noticed that the press release, which was meant to announce NBCUniversal's Upfront Showcase, inadvertently mentioned a new film titled "Super Mario World" as part of the upcoming slate from Universal Pictures and Illumination destined for Peacock streaming service.
However, Universal was quick to react, editing the press release to remove any reference to Mario. This swift action was highlighted by Twitter user Wario64, who posted a screenshot showing the change:

The original text in the press release grouped "Super Mario World" alongside "Shrek" and "Minions," which we now know refer to "Shrek 5" and "Minions 3," respectively. This suggests that "Super Mario World" might not be the final title of the Mario sequel but rather a placeholder or an umbrella term. After all, the upcoming Shrek and Minions films aren't simply titled "Shrek" and "Minions."
Despite this, "Super Mario World" is a more specific title than a generic "Super Mario" or "Super Mario Bros.," which makes it a plausible choice for the sequel. Given its history as a beloved game title, it could resonate well with fans.
