Nintendo has recently addressed concerns regarding the compatibility of its newly released GameCube controller with the Nintendo Switch 2. During the 60-minute Nintendo Direct earlier this month, it was revealed that the controller is primarily designed for playing GameCube games available in the Nintendo Switch Online retro library. However, Nintendo has now clarified that while the GameCube controller might work with some modern Nintendo Switch 2 titles, players could encounter "issues" due to the controller lacking "all the buttons and features" found in contemporary controllers.
In a statement provided to Nintendo Life, Nintendo emphasized that the GameCube controller is "designed for use with the Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics collection of games" and serves as an optional accessory for those games. The statement further clarified that, because of its limitations, using the GameCube controller with other Nintendo Switch 2 games may not be ideal. Additionally, Nintendo confirmed that the GameCube controller is exclusively compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2 and cannot be used with the original Nintendo Switch.
