In Dynasty Warriors: Origins, you'll primarily navigate the tumultuous world as the Wanderer, striving to restore peace. Throughout your journey, you'll encounter numerous choices that influence the main storyline. No matter your decisions, you'll often find yourself accompanied by powerful companions who join you in battle.

These companions not only stick by your side but also follow you across the battlefield. Moreover, you have the unique opportunity to take control of them during fights, offering a strategic advantage. Given their formidable strength, playing as your companions can often be more effective than wielding the Wanderer's upgraded abilities. Let's dive into how you can switch characters and leverage their power.

How To Switch Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching to your companion is possible only during battles where you have one by your side. Before the battle, during the war council, you'll see an option to select your companion or choose to go solo. However, once you're in the thick of the fight, you'll notice your companion's health bar at the bottom right of your screen, just above your own.

Directly below their health bar, you'll see a blue bar, similar to your Musou bar. This bar fills up as you engage in combat, with more energy gained through:

  • Parrying enemy attacks
  • Perfectly dodging enemy moves
  • Attacking Officers
  • Utilizing Weapon Arts

Virtually every combat action contributes to filling this bar, albeit at varying speeds.

When the blue bar is fully charged, a "Change Character" button will appear beside it. To switch, simply press and hold this button for about a second. On Xbox, this is the View Button; on PC, it's the C key; and on PlayStation, it's the Touchpad.

Playing As Other Characters In Dynasty Warriors: Origins

Switching to another character should be timed during the heat of a large battle. Given their exceptional power, you'll control your companions for roughly a minute. The blue bar, once full, will start to deplete, signaling the remaining time you have in control. Your newly selected character comes equipped with full Bravery and a suite of powerful combat arts, ready to make an impact.

When you switch characters, they'll leap into action with a massive attack, so make sure you're targeting an enemy for maximum effect. Your companion also comes with their own Musou and health bars, both fully charged, allowing you to unleash devastating special attacks on your foes.
