Mastering Weapon and Armor Upgrades in Avowed: A Comprehensive Guide

Progressing through Avowed introduces increasingly challenging enemies. To maintain combat effectiveness, upgrading your gear is crucial. This guide details how to enhance weapons and armor in Avowed.

Upgrade Location: Workbenches

Weapon and armor upgrades are performed at Workbenches (pictured above). These require specific materials depending on the item type and Quality. Most materials are readily available in the game world or craftable. However, advancing a weapon's Quality level necessitates progressively rarer Adra.

Workbenches are situated at Party Camps, established near Adra Waystones. Locate a Waystone, interact with it, and select the option to set up camp. These camps are marked on your map with a tent icon, enabling fast travel.

Understanding Weapon and Armor Levels

Avowed employs a dual-tiered system for weapon and armor power: Quality and Upgrade Levels.

Quality: This is indicated by a numerical value, color rarity, and descriptive adjective. The numerical value and color directly correlate to enemy levels in the Living Lands. Gear with lower Quality than encountered enemies will prove ineffective. Underpowered gear will result in reduced damage output and armor protection. Conversely, matching or exceeding enemy Quality provides significant combat advantages.

Quality Tiers:

• Common – Green, Level I
• Fine – Blue, Level II
• Exceptional – Purple, Level III
• Superb – Red, Level IV
• Legendary – Gold, Level V

Each Quality level allows for three additional upgrade tiers (+0 to +3). While less impactful than Quality increases, these still boost stats. All three + levels must be maxed before advancing to the next Quality.

Strategic Gear Upgrades

Beyond Quality and upgrade tiers, Avowed categorizes gear into standard and Unique items.

Standard Gear: Commonly found as loot or purchased from merchants. These can only be upgraded to Superb Quality.

Unique Gear: Named items obtained through quests, boss drops, or occasionally from merchants. These can reach Legendary Quality and possess unique bonuses and perks.

Prioritize Unique Gear Upgrades: Focus your resources on upgrading Unique weapons and armor, as their potential far surpasses that of standard gear. Use standard items temporarily, selling or dismantling them for resources to improve your Unique equipment.
