Warframe: 1999 Unveiled: TennoCon 2024 Delivers

by Eric Jan 26,2025

Warframe's TennoCon 2024 delivered a spectacular showcase, culminating in the announcement of Warframe: 1999, a major update promising a nostalgic trip back to the year 1999.

This immersive expansion begins with a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launching in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved Warframe character, this quest sets the stage for the main event, which requires completion of "The Lotus Eaters" and all preceding story content. "The Lotus Eaters" also introduces Sevatgoth Prime and their signature weapons. The full 1999 update is slated for Winter 2024.

Warframe: 1999 transports players to an alternate 1999 Earth, where the Y2K bug manifests as a deadly virus. The setting is Höllvania, a vibrant 90s city corrupted by Techrot. Players navigate this retro-futuristic landscape using Atomicyles, futuristic vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and explosive maneuvers. The player controls the Hex, a team of six characters each equipped with a Protoframe, a Warframe showcasing the human pilot.

The Hex team features Arthur (Excalibur), Aoi (Mag), Quincy (CYTE-09 – a new Warframe also coming to the Origin system), and other allies. The team boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Players can interact with the characters via in-game instant messaging.

Adding to the 90s atmosphere, players will face off against On-lyne, a 90s boy band infected by Technocyte Coda and led by Zeke (voiced by Nick Apostolides). Their infectious music, including the hit single "Party of Your Lifetime," is available on major streaming platforms.

Fashion takes center stage with enhanced customization options. Players can equip two fashion frame loadouts and utilize new Gemini Skins to bring Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi into the Origin System. These skins feature fully voiced lines for combat and idle interactions.

Anime Arthur and Aoi

Beyond the core gameplay, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE animation studio on an anime short film tied to Warframe: 1999, launching later this year. Additionally, high-fidelity Heirloom skins for Ember (available now) and Rhino (early 2025) are planned.

Prepare for Warframe: 1999's arrival in Winter 2024 by downloading Warframe now from the App Store.
