Rebel Wolves, a studio comprised of former developers from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, has announced their debut title, The Blood of Dawnwalker. While not aiming for a full-scale AAA experience, the team's ambitions are substantial.
Studio founder, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, clarified their goal: achieving Witcher 3-level quality, albeit on a smaller scale. He stated:
"We want AAA quality, like The Witcher 3—that’s our heritage. But as a small studio on our first project, we’re creating something more compact yet just as polished."
The estimated playtime is 30-40 hours:
"Comparing anything to The Witcher 3, which was meant to last 100+ hours but often exceeded 200-300 hours, is crazy. But is size what makes a game AAA? Call of Duty is AAA without a massive campaign. So, does scale really matter?"
Tomaszkiewicz further dismissed industry classifications like "AAA" and "AAAA" as irrelevant.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an action RPG centered around a half-vampire racing against a 30-day, 30-night deadline to rescue his loved ones. Despite the time constraint, the developers promise a streamlined and engaging gameplay experience. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, the game is slated for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with the release date yet to be announced.
