Omori's European Physical Release Cancelled

Meridiem Games, Omori's European publisher, has pulled the plug on the game's physical release across Europe for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. The announcement, made via Twitter (now X), cites complex technical issues related to multilingual European localization as the reason for the cancellation.

A String of Postponements Leads to Cancellation

The physical release, initially slated for March 2023, faced multiple delays, pushing it to December 2023, then March 2024, and finally to January 2025. These repeated setbacks, detailed in emails to pre-order customers via platforms like Amazon, ultimately resulted in the complete cancellation. While Meridiem Games offered little further explanation beyond the initial statement, the technical challenges encountered with European localization proved insurmountable.

This news has understandably left many European fans disappointed, particularly given the anticipation for an official release in Spanish and other European languages. The only option for European players seeking a physical copy remains importing a US version of the game.

Omori, a critically acclaimed RPG, follows Sunny, a young boy grappling with the aftermath of a traumatic experience. The gameplay seamlessly blends reality with Sunny's dream world, where he adopts the persona of Omori. Initially launched on PC in December 2020, the game expanded to Switch, PS4, and Xbox in 2022. However, the Xbox release was subsequently removed due to an unrelated issue concerning merchandise from the game's developers.
