Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition Reveals Storyline

Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition – Unveiling New Story Details in Latest Trailer

A fresh trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition offers deeper insights into the game's narrative and characters. The original game concluded with a cliffhanger, but this upcoming release promises added story content, potentially resolving the unanswered questions from the 2015 Wii U release.

Nintendo's new trailer, titled "The Year is 2054," features Elma, a key protagonist, recounting the events that led humanity to the planet Mira. Gameplay footage showcases the Definitive Edition's adaptations for the Nintendo Switch, addressing the absence of the Wii U's GamePad functionality.

The Xenoblade Chronicles series, a JRPG creation from Monolith Soft's Tetsuya Takahashi, is exclusive to Nintendo platforms. The original Xenoblade Chronicles initially saw a limited Japanese release, but a fan campaign, Operation Rainfall, brought it to a wider Western audience. The series' success spawned sequels: Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, and the spin-off, Xenoblade Chronicles X. The XCX: Definitive Edition release completes the series' availability on the Nintendo Switch.

A new trailer highlights the Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition's storyline. In 2054, Earth became embroiled in an intergalactic conflict between alien factions. Before Earth's destruction, a group of humans escaped aboard the White Whale ark, seeking a new home. Their perilous journey culminated in a crash landing on Mira. However, the Lifehold, a crucial piece of technology holding most passengers in stasis, was lost in the crash. The player's mission: locate the Lifehold before its power depletes.

Expanded Narrative in the Definitive Edition

The original game's cliffhanger ending will be addressed with new story elements in the Definitive Edition. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition stands as one of the most extensive RPGs on Nintendo consoles. Beyond the main BLADE mission (finding the Lifehold), players explore Mira, deploy probes, and battle indigenous and alien creatures to secure humanity's new home.

The Wii U version heavily utilized the GamePad, serving as a dynamic map and interaction tool for both single-player and online multiplayer. The trailer demonstrates how these features are integrated into the Switch version. The GamePad interface is now a dedicated menu, a mini-map mirrors other Xenoblade titles in the upper-right corner, and other UI elements have been smoothly transitioned to the main screen. The UI remains uncluttered, though this adaptation may subtly alter the gameplay experience compared to the original.
