Ōkami 2 Confirmed to Be a Direct Sequel, Still in Early Development

The highly anticipated Ōkami sequel, announced at last year's Game Awards, has finally received some clarification. While details remain scarce, IGN's recent interview with the project leads revealed key information. The sequel is a direct continuation of the original Ōkami's storyline, confirming Amaterasu's return as the protagonist, dispelling some fan speculation.

Addressing the Nintendo DS prequel, Ōkamiden, producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi acknowledged its existence and the mixed reception it received. He emphasized that the new sequel directly follows the original Ōkami's narrative, offering a distinct continuation rather than building upon Ōkamiden's story. This approach aims to address concerns regarding narrative consistency.

The original Ōkami's ending sets the stage perfectly for a sequel, leaving Amaterasu and another character embarking on an unexplored journey, ripe with potential conflicts and adventures.
