Hazelight's beloved co-op adventure, Split Fiction, has sold nearly four million copies to date.
Publisher EA confirmed the milestone in their latest financial report, describing the game's debut as "hugely successful" and citing it as a key contributor to the company's "strong finish" for fiscal year 2025.
"4 MILLION SOLD!!!!" developer Hazelight announced on social media upon hearing the news. "We are thrilled that so many of you have already experienced Split Fiction...
"Witnessing the enjoyment you all have with our game and the affection shown for Mio, Zoe, and your fellow players truly warms our hearts here at Hazelight. Not to mention all those virtual hot dogs made..."
Split Fiction immerses two players in the fantastical worlds created by a pair of fiction writers. This innovative co-op experience is designed for two, requiring only one person to own the game. Released in March, it has quickly become another major hit for Hazelight and director Josef Fares, having sold over 2 million copies in its first week alone. It is also confirmed as a launch title for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, while Hazelight begins work on its next project.
A film adaptation of the game is currently in development, with Story Kitchen—the video game adaptation studio behind the Sonic movies—reportedly assembling a team of writers, a director, and a cast that will feature Sydney Sweeney.
In our assessment, Split Fiction is "an expertly crafted and absorbing co-op adventure that bounces between genre extremes." Our IGN review noted that it offers "a rollercoaster of gameplay ideas and styles, most of which are discarded as fast as they're introduced. This approach keeps the experience wonderfully fresh throughout its entire 14-hour runtime."
