Amazon has unveiled Alexa+, a new version of its popular voice assistant, which is now available in early access. This upgraded model is powered by generative AI, designed to make conversations more natural and fluid. Amazon touts Alexa+ as being "more conversational, smarter, personalized – and she helps you get things done," promising an enhanced user experience.
Currently, Alexa+ is in its early access phase, exclusively available on select Echo Show devices: the Echo Show 8, 10, 15, and 21. If you own or are considering purchasing one of these devices, you can sign up for notifications to be among the first to try out Alexa+. After the early access period, Alexa+ will become a free benefit for Amazon Prime members, or available to non-Prime users for $19.99 per month.

With its conversational approach, Alexa+ allows you to ask questions or request assistance as thoughts arise. It can help with tasks such as managing your to-do list, retrieving specific calendar details, and making restaurant reservations, among others. Amazon's Alexa+ Early Access page highlights that "new features are being added regularly," suggesting that more capabilities will be introduced post the early access phase.
However, not all devices are compatible with Alexa+. Older generation Echo devices, including the Echo Dot 1st Gen, Echo 1st Gen, Echo Plus 1st Gen, Amazon Tap, Echo Show 1st Gen, Echo Show 2nd Gen, and Echo Spot 1st Gen, will continue to use the original Alexa. Amazon has plans to expand Alexa+ to more devices, including Fire TV, Fire tablets, and Alexa.com, in the near future.
