The trailer not only introduces a fresh take on the Xenomorph's design but also pays homage to Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, Alien. The setting inside a MU/TH/UR control room strikingly resembles the Nostromo's, where Ripley famously uncovered the terrifying truth about her crew's fate. In the Alien: Earth trailer, a crew member desperately seeks help while banging on a sealed door as the Xenomorph closes in. Meanwhile, Morrow, portrayed by Babou Ceesay, coldly reports that the "specimens are loose," declares the crew dead, and sets the ship on a collision course with Earth. The trailer then shifts to six soldiers approaching the crash site, hinting at a grim outcome for them.
This trailer raises numerous intriguing questions: Will Morrow survive? What drives his actions? Are there other survivors, possibly even impregnated by the Xenomorph? And how will the soldiers meet their fate?
Alien: Earth sets the stage with a mysterious spacecraft crashing on Earth, where a young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, and a group of tactical soldiers uncover a dire threat to the planet.
FX’s Alien series is set in 2120, positioned chronologically after *Prometheus* and just two years before the events of *Alien*. This timeline has led fans to speculate that *Alien: Earth* might explore the Nostromo's departure from Earth or reveal how the nefarious Weyland-Yutani corporation first learned of the Xenomorphs. For context, the recent interquel *Alien: Romulus* is set between *Alien* and *Aliens*.In January of last year, showrunner Noah Hawley discussed his decision to deviate from the backstory established in Prometheus for Alien: Earth. He cited a preference for the "retro-futurism" of the original films and mentioned consulting with Ridley Scott about various elements of the series. Ultimately, Hawley chose to distance Alien: Earth from the bioweapon narrative, favoring the lore of the initial movies.
Alien: Earth is scheduled to premiere on Hulu in the summer of 2025, with Alien: Romulus 2 also in development.
