Firaxis Games Postpones First In-Game Event for Civilization 7
Civilization 7 Focusing on Quality of Life Improvements
Civilization 7 (Civ 7) has decided to postpone its first in-game event to focus on essential quality-of-life improvements. Firaxis Games shared this decision in a development update on February 28, 2025, accompanied by a roadmap outlining future plans for the game.
The next update, version 1.1.0, is scheduled for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and consoles, with a separate release date for the Nintendo Switch. Originally, the "Natural Wonder Battle" event was set to launch with this update, but Firaxis Games announced, "Although our first in-game Event, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."
Since its early access launch, the game has received mixed reviews, with many players expressing dissatisfaction with certain aspects, particularly the user interface (UI). Firaxis Games has acknowledged these concerns, stating, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI." They further added, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."
Update 1.1.0 Will Address Community Feedback
The upcoming update for Civ 7 is designed to tackle community feedback and suggestions head-on. While the full patch notes will be released at launch, Firaxis Games has provided a sneak peek of what to expect.
Players will have the opportunity to explore the new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, at no additional cost. The much-anticipated UI adjustments will also be implemented, addressing player concerns and feedback. Additionally, significant changes are planned for the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path and Victory mechanics, with AI leaders receiving enhancements to better compete for a Cultural Victory.
Simultaneously, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will become available. Firaxis Games confirmed, "Players who own either of those editions, or have purchased the Crossroads of the World Collection separately, will receive this content automatically with Update 1.1.0."
Next Major Update Slated for March 25, 2025
The next major update for Civ 7 is scheduled for March 25, 2025, though this date may be subject to change. This update will continue the focus on enhancing the game’s UI, as Firaxis Games stated, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."
Looking beyond the March updates, Civ 7 aims to introduce further enhancements and refinements. These include a "one more turn" feature allowing players to continue past the end of the Modern Age, auto-explore functionality, new map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), improvements in multiplayer support, and more.
Firaxis Games emphasized, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
