Destiny 1 Update Surprises Users After Seven Years

A Festive Surprise: Unexpected Decorations Light Up Destiny 1's Tower

Seven years after its initial release, Destiny's Tower social space has received a mysterious and unexpected update, featuring festive lights and decorations. This surprise, discovered by players on January 5th, has sparked considerable speculation within the community.

The original Destiny, while still playable, largely ceded its prominence to Destiny 2 in 2017. However, Bungie's continued integration of legacy content into Destiny 2, including classic raids and exotic weapons, demonstrates an ongoing connection to the original game. This unexpected update in the Tower serves as a testament to that connection.

The decorations bear a resemblance to past Destiny seasonal events, such as The Dawning, featuring Ghost-shaped lights. However, the lack of accompanying quests, in-game messages, or snow suggests this is not a planned event.

A Forgotten Event Emerges?

The leading theory among players points towards a cancelled event, tentatively titled "Days of the Dawning," originally scheduled for 2016. Reddit user Breshi's analysis suggests a strong correlation between unused assets from this scrapped event and the current decorations in the Tower. This suggests a possible explanation: the event may have been assigned a future date on the game's internal schedule, a date long after Bungie anticipated Destiny 1's active player base would dwindle.

As of this writing, Bungie has not commented on this unexpected update. Given that 2017 marked a significant shift in focus to Destiny 2, leaving Destiny 1 largely untouched, this unannounced event offers a unique and temporary experience for players before it is likely removed. Until then, players can enjoy this unexpected holiday cheer in the original Destiny's Tower.
