Get ready, Guardians! Bungie has just revealed an exciting lineup for Destiny 2 under the banner of the "Year of Prophecy," featuring two new expansions and significant seasonal and core game updates that will enhance the experience for both paying and free players.
The "Year of Prophecy" is set to deliver four major content updates, split between two paid expansions and two free updates. This approach ensures that all players can enjoy substantial new content throughout the year.
Kicking things off is the free update, Rite of the Nine, which reimagines dungeon diving for both veterans and newcomers. Available now at no extra cost, this update refreshes familiar dungeons like Prophecy, Spire of the Watcher, and Ghosts of the Deep, introducing unique twists and opportunities to reconnect with Orin while exploring revamped dungeon weapons.
On July 15, the first paid expansion, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, will launch, marking the beginning of a multiyear saga centered around the enigmatic Nine. This expansion introduces new characters, Lodi and Ikora, and takes players to the new destination, Kepler. Designed with puzzle-solving and deep exploration in mind, Kepler promises new enemies, weapons, gear, and destination-specific abilities.
Simultaneously, on July 15, major core game innovations will be introduced, including revamped armor and gear systems for enhanced buildcrafting and a new activity selection screen called the Portal. This update will allow players to choose from various activities like Fireteam Ops, Pinnacle Ops, Crucible Ops, and the new Solo Ops, catering to different play styles and preferences. Additionally, 50 new modifiers will offer deeper customization and more challenging gameplay, with curated activity rotations ensuring a constant stream of new challenges.
As is customary with new expansions, pre-order bonuses are available, including an instantly unlockable Exotic Ghost and Legendary Emblem. Here are the details for the pre-orders:

Following The Edge of Fate, a second major update, Ash & Iron, will go live on September 9, alongside the second expansion, Destiny 2: Renegades, launching on December 2. The year will conclude with the Shadow & Order update on March 3.
Destiny 2: Renegades draws inspiration from the legendary Star Wars universe, blending Destiny's unique storytelling and gameplay with iconic sci-fi elements, promising an exciting new chapter for players.
This news comes as a boost for many Destiny 2 players, especially after Bungie's layoffs of 220 staff members in July 2024, following another 100 layoffs less than a year prior.
While Destiny 2 keeps Bungie busy, the studio is also working on Marathon, a reboot of their classic franchise. Recently, IGN's hands-on preview of Marathon's alpha state indicated promising PvP gameplay, suggesting it might fill the void left by Bungie's previous PvP titles when it launches on PC and consoles in September.
