Dragon Quest 3 Remake: How to Get the Yellow Orb

by Joshua Jan 24,2025

This guide explains how to obtain the elusive Yellow Orb in the Dragon Quest 3 Remake. While the process is relatively simple, finding the starting point can be challenging. This guide will help you navigate the process.

The Yellow Orb is located in Merchantburg, a town initially represented as "???" on the map. Its name is determined by the merchant you hire and leave there. You must establish and develop this village to obtain the orb.

Locating Merchantburg (???)

After obtaining the ship from the King of Portoga (following the Black Pepper quest), Merchantburg's location becomes accessible. With quest markers enabled, it's found in the northeast corner of the world map. You can sail west from the coast to reach the easternmost point of the eastern continent.

Optimal Timing for Visiting Merchantburg

While orb collection order is flexible, visiting Merchantburg early (immediately after acquiring the ship) is recommended. The town requires significant growth time before yielding the Yellow Orb. Establishing it early allows you to collect other orbs concurrently.

Obtaining the Yellow Orb

Establishing Merchantburg:

  1. Hire a new Merchant from PALS in Aliahan. Minimize combat en route to preserve your new party member's health.

  1. In Merchantburg's single building, speak to the old man. He'll explain his need for a merchant to establish the town. Offer your newly hired merchant. The town will then receive its official name.

Returning to Merchantburg and its Growth:

Merchantburg grows through five stages. You'll receive notifications prompting you to return and observe its progress. Each visit reveals a larger town, culminating in a large cabaret's construction. After exiting the cabaret, be wary of a security guard attempting to extort you.

Your merchant's growing arrogance towards townsfolk signals the final stage.

Acquiring the Yellow Orb:

On your fifth and final visit (at night), you'll find the merchant missing. The townsfolk have revolted, imprisoning him in the house south of his former residence.

Speak to the imprisoned merchant; he'll reveal the Yellow Orb's location. Return to his house; a quest marker will appear behind the sofa. Interact with the ground behind the sofa to uncover the Yellow Orb.

The Yellow Orb is typically one of the last orbs acquired. Other orb locations include: Red Orb (Pirates' Den), Green Orb (Theddon), and Silver Orb (Maw of the Necrogond/Necrogond Shrine).
