FCC Filing Hints at Upgrade for Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller

by Grace May 05,2025

With less than 24 hours remaining until the highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building as Nintendo prepares to unveil its plans for the next generation of its popular console. A recent Federal Communications Commission (FCC) filing has sparked speculation about what might be included in the Switch 2's controller lineup.

On March 31, an FCC filing under the product code "BEE-008" surfaced, as noted by Famiboards and covered by Nintendo-focused outlets like GoNintendo. This filing appears to be for a new game controller, and some enthusiasts speculate that it could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. While this is still conjecture, as Nintendo has not officially confirmed the existence of a Switch 2 Pro Controller, certain features in the filing suggest it could indeed be a Pro Controller, including Bluetooth and NFC capabilities.

One particularly noteworthy aspect of this filing, should it indeed pertain to the Switch 2 Pro Controller, is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack. Unlike the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature, the Switch 2 Pro Controller might offer this convenience, aligning it with other modern controllers like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers. This would represent a significant quality-of-life improvement for gamers.

While past Nintendo filings have provided early glimpses into the company's plans, we must remember that this remains speculative until officially confirmed. Any further leaks before tomorrow's Direct could shed more light on this, but we're likely to get official confirmation during the Switch 2 Direct.

The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's channels. Viewers can expect a "closer look" at the Switch 2, following its initial reveal earlier this year, with hopes of receiving concrete details, including a potential release date. Nintendo has confirmed that the Direct will last for an hour, and additional hands-on gameplay sessions, titled Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2, are planned for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day.
