Minecraft Movie's Funniest Scene Inspired by The NeverEnding Story

by Hunter Jun 01,2025

In *A Minecraft Movie*, one of the most memorable comedic moments draws inspiration from *The NeverEnding Story*. During a scene where Jack Black's Steve must hitch a ride on Jason Momoa's Garrett due to limited Elytra wings, the physical humor reaches new heights. As director Jared Hess explained, the intention was to evoke a "Falkor moment"—majestic yet unpredictable. Producer Torfi Frans Ólafsson added that the improvisation between the actors during breaks made it even funnier.

Jack Black, who previously portrayed Slip in *The NeverEnding Story 3*, couldn't resist referencing the iconic film. Between takes, he began singing the theme song while pretending to ride Momoa like Falkor. Momoa found the experience hilarious, recalling how they crafted the scene together after the success of *Top Gun: Maverick*. Despite initial ideas leaning toward a more intense execution, the final result remained family-friendly, much to everyone's relief.
