Capcom Unveils New Onimusha: Way of the Sword Gameplay Featuring Miyamoto Musashi
Capcom recently showcased fresh gameplay footage for its upcoming action title, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, slated for release in 2026. The reveal, part of the PlayStation State of Play event, not only showcased impressive sword-based combat and formidable enemies but also confirmed the legendary Miyamoto Musashi as the game's protagonist.
The trailer highlighted Musashi's exceptional swordsmanship, alongside glimpses of his mischievous and humorous personality. Capcom describes Onimusha: Way of the Sword as a dark fantasy action game featuring one of Japan's most celebrated historical figures. Interestingly, Musashi's in-game likeness is reportedly based on the late Toshiro Mifune, a renowned Japanese actor known for his portrayal of Musashi in various samurai films.
The game's setting is a demon-infested Kyoto, overrun by the malevolent force known as Malic, which is summoning hellish creatures into Japan. This marks the first new entry in the Onimusha franchise in two decades. To build anticipation, Capcom also announced a remaster of Onimusha 2: Samurai's Destiny, set for release on May 23, 2025.
