Phil Spencer Reaffirms Xbox's Support for Switch 2, Praises Nintendo Partnership

by Riley May 13,2025

Following the reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2, it sounds like the partnership between Nintendo and Xbox will continue to thrive. Microsoft's head of gaming, Phil Spencer, recently reaffirmed his commitment to the Switch platform as a way to reach players who aren't on Xbox or PC platforms.

In an interview with Variety, Spencer was asked about specific projects planned for the Nintendo Switch 2. He expressed that just as Xbox has been supporting the original Switch, it aims to support the Switch 2 as well. "Nintendo has been a great partner. We think it is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t players on Xbox," Spencer stated. He emphasized the importance of expanding their community and investing in their game franchises.

Spencer further expressed his admiration for Nintendo's role in the gaming industry, saying, "I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means for this industry and us continuing to support them. And getting the support from them for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future."

Spencer has previously praised the Nintendo Switch 2 for its innovation. He confirmed that Xbox would continue to bring more of its games to multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Steam, and Nintendo's consoles.

When Variety asked if the Switch 2 reveal made him eager to announce Xbox's next console lineup, Spencer responded, "No. I think all of us in this industry should focus on our communities and the player base that we’re building. I get inspired by what a lot of different creators do and other platform holders. But I believe in the plans that we have."

The Xbox head reiterated the company's commitment to delivering games across various platforms, including cloud, PC, and consoles. Titles like Pentiment and Obsidian's Grounded have already made their way to Nintendo platforms, and it will be intriguing to see what Xbox brings to the Switch 2 once it launches.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to officially debut on June 5, 2025. While pre-orders have not yet started, keep an eye on our Switch 2 pre-order hub page for updates on when they might become available.
