Sunbird Studio has officially released Prickle for Android and iOS. This grid-based, Tetris-inspired puzzle game takes heavy cues from Sokoban-style challenges. You join a family of hedgehogs and assist them on their journey home.
Guide an Adorable Prickly Family in Prickle
The game immerses you in the delightful world of DadHog, a devoted hedgehog father tasked with rounding up his scattered hoglets and leading them safely home. It's a thoughtful maze where every step requires careful planning.
The developer introduces the "Prickle," a Tetris-like formation created as hoglets cling to DadHog and each other. Once attached, a hoglet remains fixed in place.
Levels grow increasingly challenging as the Prickle expands and becomes more cumbersome. Navigating the growing mass through narrow hedge corridors and past obstacles is a demanding test of smart rotation and route strategy.
Prickle features 48 levels across four distinct seasons. Summer offers gentle, introductory navigation, while Autumn introduces acorns that attach to the Prickle, increasing its size.
Winter brings puddles into play. While DadHog cannot swim through them, his hoglets might need to. Spring then introduces blossoms that consume any remaining acorns.
A Minimalist 2D Puzzle Experience
One of Prickle's most captivating features is its visual aesthetic. Every character, maze, and piece of menu text is hand-drawn using Godot and Krita, resulting in a charming pen-and-paper art style.
The visuals are primarily monochrome, but players can opt for subtle color accents. There's also a toggle to switch from a black-on-white to a white-on-black display. Charming details abound, such as DadHog dozing off if the game is left idle for a few minutes.
