Slay the Spire 2 Release Date Pushed Back to March 2026
Developer Megacrit announced that the decision to delay Slay the Spire 2 from late 2025 came "after extensive internal discussion." While they acknowledge "this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear," the team emphasizes that additional development time is necessary.
"There's no single dramatic reason. Some personal life events impacted the team (everyone is doing well!), we kept saying 'wouldn't it be cool if…' one too many times, and honestly, the game just needs more polish to meet our standards," the team admitted.
"We know this isn't the news anyone wanted to hear (ourselves included; we're eager to get this into your hands!). Originally, we were targeting late 2025, but it turns out that timeline was off. We need a bit more time."
The delay also allows for the addition of new features and content, according to the team. This includes new characters, additional cards, potions, relics, events, enhanced visual polish, improved animations and VFX, quality-of-life changes, entirely new mechanics, and "a whole lot more we can’t tell you about just yet."
"You know what eats up game development time? Game development!" the statement read. "Compared to Slay the Spire 1's early access launch (and its final 2.0 iteration), this sequel features significantly more content that we can't wait to share with you. Additionally, we want to ensure we uphold the quality bar both we and the gaming community have come to expect from Early Access titles."
In response to speculation about Hollow Knight: Silksong's influence on the schedule, Megacrit clarified that the delay is unrelated. They insisted they "determined our new release window as a team before Silksong's date was announced."
"The timing just worked out that way, but on the bright side, everyone can enjoy playing Silksong during the wait!" Megacrit added.
