In the vast world of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the Blackroot stands out as one of the most crucial herbs you'll encounter in Rivellon. This herb becomes essential during the Miester's Ritual in Act 4, guided by Miester Siva. To complete this ritual, you'll need to craft a special Ritual Bowl, combining a ritual bowl, a bloody obsidian lancet, and the elusive Blackroot. This concoction is your key to entering the Hall of Echoes and unlocking the Night Vision skill.
The first time you undertake this ritual, all required ingredients are conveniently located in Siva's basement. However, each subsequent ritual, triggered by earning a Source point, demands that you source all items yourself. While obtaining a ritual bowl and obsidian lancet is relatively straightforward, finding Blackroot can be a real challenge. If you're struggling to locate this vital herb, this guide is here to help.
Venture Into Cloisterwood
Cloisterwood, a lush and dense forest, lies in the northwestern part of Reaper's Coast, just a short journey north of Driftwood. Once you're navigating through the forest, use the left ALT key to highlight all potential pickups.
You'll soon come across various herbs, including the sought-after Blackroots, nestled at the base of trees. Though you only need one Blackroot for the ritual, it's wise to collect a few extra as a precaution. Without delving into spoilers, note that you can perform the ritual each time you gain a Source point.
Cloisterwood Exploration Tips
Cloisterwood is not only rich in Blackroot but also teeming with secrets. You'll encounter two NPCs, Hannag and Jahan, who can each help you gain a Source point. Jahan is also pivotal in advancing Lohse's narrative. Hidden among the ruins, you'll find Eithne, an undead trader. Engage with her and select the "Divine Order" option to embark on a side quest.
Further north, near the pier, you'll meet the Dead Ferryman, who can transport you to Bloodmoon Island. These are just a few of the notable characters you might encounter in Cloisterwood. The forest also conceals other treasures, such as the Wrecker's Cave and the opportunity to obtain a unique loremaster amulet by conversing with the spirit of a ship captain. If you're exploring Cloisterwood for the first time, take your time to thoroughly investigate the area. It's recommended to steer clear of the crucified witch Alice Alisceon until you reach at least level 15.
