If you're having trouble completing the story mode, we've created a comprehensive beginner's guide to help you beat the game. Let's get started!
Understand the Core Gameplay Mechanics of Duck Detective: Secret Salami
For those who don't know, Duck Detective: Secret Salami comes in two versions—a free one and a paid one. This guide focuses only on the story mode available in the free version, since it's accessible to everyone. Though relatively short, the game has made a huge impact on players, becoming a cult classic within just a year of its release. Starting from the beginning, you'll play through seven chapters, referred to officially as "Deducktions," in the following order:
The Nest Egg
The Entrance
The Suspects
The Client and More Suspects
The Presents
The Message and The Business
The Receptionist and More Business

Deducktion #1. The Nest Egg
The story opens in Eugene McQuacklin's rather gloomy apartment. The Nest Egg sets the tone and introduces you to the protagonist. Inspect every item in the room—the scattered papers, the loaf of bread, the desk phone, and anything else in sight. After all, sharp observation is key in this game.
Answer – Mr. McQuacklin used his last bit of savings to purchase bread.
Deducktion #2. The Entrance
Pay close attention to all the signs and notes you come across at The Entrance. Read each one carefully. Most importantly, talk to everyone you meet—that's the best way to start collecting evidence to crack the case of the missing salami.
Answer – Sophie is frightened and distressed after receiving a threatening note.
Deducktion #3. The Suspects
This crocodile character seems suspicious. Ask him as many questions as you can. A green bag sits beside his desk, hinting that he could be the thief! It’s also worth checking his computer—who knows what secrets are hidden there? The Suspects chapter is all about interrogations.
Answer – Laura hired Detective Duck to find her stolen lunch.
Deducktion #4. The Client and More Suspects
The sheep holding the whisk seemed too pleasant to be a thief—but don't be fooled by appearances. Focus on each character in the room one by one, leaving no one out. With the lady carrying the whisk, take a closer look at the area just above her right ear. That may give you some of the clues you need to reach the right conclusions in The Client and More Suspects deduction.
Answer – Sophie is the receptionist. Manfred is the Branch Manager. Laura works in customer service. Freddy is based in the operational office.
Deducktion #5. The Presents
Sophie received gifts including a plush toy and a necklace, but the book is what really catches our attention. Examine every corner of the page and read the note thoroughly—there may be important clues hidden within.
Answer – Laura gave Sophie the plushie. Rufus gave Sophie the book. Boris gave Sophie the necklace. Nothing was stolen.
Deducktion #6. The Message and the Business
For this part, you may need to step outside into the parking lot. Since it'll be raining, make sure you grab an umbrella—you'll be speaking with Boris outside for some time. Gathering every available detail is essential to cracking The Message and The Business.
Answer – Salamis are being smuggled illegally from Salsiccia.
Deducktion #7. The Receptionist and More Business
This is where the plot thickens and the full truth emerges. Check every box in the room—even the electrical wires. Eventually, you'll find a safe full of clues. The code to open it is 214. Who knows—this could be the final piece of evidence needed to catch the salami thief.
Answer – Sophie was kidnapped because she planned to reveal the truth. Manfred is the salami thief. Sophie is an accomplice. Boris is also an accomplice.
